Background
Unicharm is a global leader in personal care and hygiene products, with a vast distribution network across Asia. Facing growing consumer demand and the complexity of multi-level E-Commerce fulfillment, Unicharm required a new Regional Distribution Center (RDC) in Shanghai capable of consolidating multiple existing CDCs and distributing efficiently to a large number of downstream RDCs.
This was the second project Rainbow Dynamics completed with Unicharm, reflecting a trusted and ongoing partnership built on measurable results.
Challenge
The site selected was a pre-built spec facility developed by GLP, spanning 3 levels. The primary challenge was to design an automated storage and retrieval system that could maximize the vertical height of the multi-floor facility, consolidate inbound flows from existing distribution points, and support high-velocity outbound throughput to meet peak E-Commerce demand.
Solution
Rainbow Dynamics deployed a high-density 4D Pallet Shuttle system configured across 9 levels spanning all 3 floors. With 60 shuttles operating across 11 levels of racking, the system dramatically expanded storage capacity while enabling precise, automated retrieval for both inbound receiving and outbound dispatch.
The design enabled seamless multi-floor operation, eliminating manual fork truck dependency in the core storage zone and allowing warehouse staff to focus on value-added tasks at the periphery.
