UK-Based Rainbow Dynamics Launches Full-Scale AS/RS Business in Japan

UK logistics robotics company Rainbow Dynamics is moving into full-scale development of its automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS) business in Japan. Sumio Tanaka has been appointed President of Rainbow Dynamics Japan. He is the founder of the WMS (warehouse management system) brand FRAMEWORX and CEO of logistics consultancy LogiDyne, based in Suruga Ward, Shizuoka. By combining AS/RS technology with WMS, WCS (warehouse control systems), and logistics consulting, the company aims to capture growing demand for logistics digital transformation (DX) among Japanese businesses.
Rainbow Dynamics was founded in Lancashire, United Kingdom, in 2023. In addition to its UK headquarters, it operates locations in the United States, Japan, and China, as well as a manufacturing facility in Zhejiang Province, China. Its flagship products are the 4D Pallet Shuttle for automated pallet storage and RackBot, a goods-to-person AS/RS.

The 4D Pallet Shuttle uses shuttles that move forward, backward, left, right, and vertically to provide high-density storage and greater storage-and-retrieval capacity. The company reports deployments at a U.S. cross-dock center and a logistics center in Shanghai, China. Designed for facilities handling a high variety of SKUs, RackBot coordinates robots that travel within the rack with floor-level transport robots, reducing operator walking.

Rainbow Dynamics also offers proprietary WMS and WCS software, supporting everything from robot fleet control to end-to-end optimization of logistics operations. As e-commerce growth and labor shortages drive greater investment in automated storage, the company plans to develop demand in Japan by providing implementation support that includes operational design rather than supplying equipment alone.
