On July 6, the company held an establishment ceremony at The Imperial Hotel Tokyo in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, inviting numerous logistics industry professionals from Japan. At the event, Rainbow Dynamics also announced the development of Deep2 RackBot, the next-generation model of its tote and case handling GTP-type AS/RS RackBot, demonstrating its strong commitment to expanding its business in the Japanese market.

Japan to Become the Key Market for Future Business Growth

Rainbow Dynamics provides automation solutions for logistics facilities centered around its four-way pallet shuttle AS/RS, “4D Pallet Shuttle,” and its tote and case handling GTP-type AS/RS, “RackBot.” The company has also independently developed WMS and WCS platforms, supporting everything from robot fleet control to overall logistics operation optimization. In Jessup, Maryland, “4D Pallet Shuttle” was deployed through Alliance Material Handling, a leading MH equipment system integrator, for an LTL (Less Than Truckload) network supporting a cross-dock center operated by one of the world’s largest e-commerce companies, achieving space savings and improved processing efficiency. In Shanghai, China, “4D Pallet Shuttle” was also introduced at Ohto Logistics’ RDC (Regional Distribution Center), delivering high-density storage, improved inbound and outbound handling capacity, and reduced forklift travel distance for large volumes of palletized goods, including Unicharm products.
Furthermore, at an omnichannel logistics center in Taiwan operated by a local subsidiary of the Nippon Express Group for Bosch, “RackBot” has been deployed, contributing to reduced operator walking distances, improved SKU management accuracy, and standardized operations. Based on these successful overseas deployments, Rainbow Dynamics positions the Japanese market as a key strategic market for further business growth. The establishment of its Japanese subsidiary represents the first step in this strategy.
In Japan, demand for warehouse automation is rapidly increasing due to constraints on logistics facility space and severe labor shortages. Meanwhile, domestic MH equipment manufacturers are expanding their orders, while European, American, and Chinese logistics robotics companies are also entering the Japanese market through various channels, intensifying competition. Although Rainbow Dynamics entered the market relatively later, its ability to support automation through both hardware and software represents a key advantage. The establishment of its Japanese subsidiary is expected to accelerate future business development and customer acquisition in Japan.

At the Japanese subsidiary establishment event, Jun Tanaka stated that introducing new technologies into logistics centers often encounters resistance similar to an “AT Field” (a defensive system featured in a popular anime series). He expressed his ambition to overcome such barriers through new technologies, drawing laughter from the audience. Reflecting on his years of experience supporting logistics DX initiatives, Tanaka added, “We cannot change the entire industry by ourselves, but we hope to make an impact and bring new possibilities to the industry. We aim to provide technologies that live up to the name ‘Rainbow’ by adding color to logistics.”
He further emphasized, “Our goal is not simply to introduce equipment. What matters is accurately understanding the business and logistics challenges faced by customers and providing the optimal solutions to address them. Following Tanaka’s remarks, Alfred Chen, founder and CEO of Rainbow Dynamics (Chairman and Representative Director of the Japanese subsidiary, Photo 2), explained the background behind the company’s establishment. In 2022, while working at GLP in the United States, Chen encountered a company seeking alternative technology after facing the discontinuation of maintenance services for Kiva robots acquired by Amazon at a warehouse in Philadelphia. This experience became the catalyst for founding Rainbow Dynamics in 2023.
Chen explained the reason behind focusing on AS/RS as a core product, stating, “The areas that create value in logistics facilities are storage and picking, and I believe we should focus on these areas, which account for approximately 70% of warehouse operations.” Regarding the decision to enter the Japanese market, he said, “Labor costs are high and space is limited. We believe Japan is a market where our AS/RS solutions can deliver significant value.” He added, “Japan offers great opportunities for us to contribute to society,” expressing his strong commitment to expanding business in Japan.
Representing the guests, Shinichiro Kato, Executive Director of the Japan 3PL Association, also took the stage. Introducing Tanaka’s achievements in Japan’s WMS market, Kato stated, “Mr. Tanaka has provided WMS solutions optimized for the Japanese market since the 1990s, and his contributions have been significant. With his extensive experience as a professional business leader, I am confident that he will play an important role in driving the growth of Rainbow Dynamics.”

The 4D Pallet Shuttle is a four-way pallet shuttle AS/RS featuring a shuttle design capable of moving in forward/backward, left/right, and vertical directions, enabling high-density storage and high throughput. The system supports flexible expansion of equipment and layout changes, allowing it to adapt to future fluctuations in logistics demand. Following implementation, improvements have been confirmed, including approximately 50% higher storage capacity, around double pallet handling capacity, approximately 70% reduction in forklift usage, and around 40% reduction in onsite labor requirements.

RackBot is a Goods-to-Person (GTP) type AS/RS developed for tote and case storage. Designed for logistics centers handling a wide variety of SKUs, the system consists of RackBot units that move inside the racks and GroundBot units responsible for ground transportation.
The RackBot retrieves target products from the racks, while the GroundBot transports them to the workstations, reducing operators’ walking distance and time within the warehouse, while also improving operational consistency and reducing training costs.
