Rainbow Dynamics Establishes Japan Subsidiary

Rainbow Dynamics Japan Inc., the Japanese subsidiary of UK-based logistics robotics company Rainbow Dynamics, held its establishment ceremony at the Imperial Hotel on July 6.

Mr. Sumio Tanaka, founder of WMS “FRAMEWORX” and CEO of logistics consulting company LogiDyne, has been appointed as Representative Director of the Japanese entity. The subsidiary completed its registration in late June.

By combining next-generation Automated Storage and Retrieval System (AS/RS) technologies with logistics consulting expertise, Rainbow Dynamics Japan will support Japanese companies in advancing logistics DX and begin full-scale expansion in the Japanese market.

The logistics industry is undergoing unprecedented transformation driven by e-commerce growth, increasingly complex supply chains, labor shortages, and Japan’s 2024 Logistics Problem. Logistics centers now require higher storage efficiency, faster shipping response, stable quality, and sustainable operations. As a result, global investment in AS/RS solutions is accelerating.

Key Solutions

1. 4D Pallet Shuttle (Four-Way Shuttle)

The 4D Pallet Shuttle is an automated pallet storage system that achieves high-density storage and high throughput through four-way shuttle robots capable of moving freely in multiple directions.

The system supports flexible facility expansion and layout changes, enabling warehouses to adapt to future logistics demand changes.

Implementation examples include a US cross-docking center operated by a leading global e-commerce company, achieving approximately 50% higher storage capacity, doubled pallet handling capability, around 70% fewer forklifts, and approximately 40% fewer onsite workers.

The system was also deployed at Daifu Logistics RDC in Shanghai, China, improving operational efficiency through high-density storage and enhanced inbound and outbound capabilities.

2. RackBot (Goods-to-Person AS/RS)

RackBot is a Goods-to-Person AS/RS solution designed for logistics centers handling multiple SKUs.

RackBot operating inside racks works together with GroundBot for floor transportation. By eliminating operator walking, it improves productivity, quality, and training efficiency simultaneously.

The solution was adopted at Bosch’s omnichannel logistics center operated by Nippon Express Group in Taiwan, contributing to reduced walking distance, improved SKU accuracy, and standardized operations.

3. Proprietary WMS and WCS

Rainbow Dynamics develops proprietary WMS and WCS solutions that support robot fleet control and overall logistics optimization.

Through open architecture integration with ERP and higher-level systems, the solutions can meet different customer operational requirements.

Comment from Sumio Tanaka, Representative Director of Rainbow Dynamics Japan

Equipment installation itself is not the goal. The most important thing is understanding customers’ business and logistics challenges and designing the optimal solution.

AS/RS is one means to achieve this. By combining Rainbow Dynamics’ innovative technologies with logistics DX consulting expertise, we believe we can create new possibilities for Japan’s logistics industry.
